Thoughts on Thriving Through Spring Worries

Spring is just around the corner and our family is more than ready to welcome it! Winter with little ones can feel so very long. We are ready for longer days and sunshine around here! But, of course, because life is complex and nuanced, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Spring also brings with it plenty of transitions and changes. There is never a shortage of worries to navigate.

As I have been preparing for the change of seasons, I have been working on a new set of Worry Journals and I am so excited to get to share them. To read about the journals that preceded this set, you can read about my Winter Worry Journals here.

It is so valuable to give children as much language and vocabulary as possible to process the things that are worrying them. My main goal for this entire journal series is to give children words, tools and an outlet to process their anxieties. I also hope to normalize worrying and help children to understand that they are not alone when they are anxious.

My focus for the March Worry Journal is to incorporate growth mindset concepts as they relate to anxiety. If you are interested in reading more about growth mindset, please check out my post on growth mindset HERE.

My goal for the March journal is to teach children that while it’s true that worries can grow, their brains and coping skills can grow too! This can be such an empowering realization, especially when worries feel big or sticky.

Each of the journals in this series comes in both an outline format, which is pictured above, as well as a mini-book format. The outline format allow for the journal to be completed in small sections daily. The mini-book format allows for children to fill out the journal with more freedom and their own timeframe. Both versions are provided to allow for parents/teachers to decide which option may work best.

The March Journal provides four weeks of prompts with five sections per week. The weeks are divided up into four themes:

  • Week One: What is Growth?

  • Week Two: Worries Can Grow

  • Week Three: Your Brain is Growing Too!

  • Week Four: Growing Your Worry Tools

Teaching kids about growth mindset and navigating anxieties are two of my very favorite topics because I think they can both be so empowering. This journal was really fun to make!

The April Worry Journal focuses on teaching kids about how worries show up in their bodies. I think it is so important to teach kids to trust their bodies. Their bodies are constantly sending them clues and signals. Teaching them to recognize and listen to those cues is such a valuable lesson. Each of us will spend every day of our lives with our own body, from birth until death. Building a relationship with their body that is healthy and trusting will benefit our kids for the rest of their lives.

The April Journal is divided into four weeks of prompts.

  • Week One: Worries and Your Body

  • Week Two: Noticing the Clues Your Body Sends

  • Week Three: Naming The Clues Your Body Sends

  • Week Four: Deciding What To Do Next

I truly hope this journal is a helpful tool for the kids in your life!

The May Worry Journal focuses on mindfulness and worries. My goal is to give children vocabulary and context around the idea of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a powerful tool to help children recognize what is happening around them, self-regulate and move forward in a productive and healthy way.

The May Journal is divided into four sections:

  • Week One: What is Mindfulness?

  • Week Two: Staying in the Present Moment

  • Week Three: Mindfulness and the Five Senses

  • Week Four: Practicing Mindfulness

You can check out the first week of the May Journal HERE for free to see if it’s a good fit for the kids in your life!

My hope for this Spring Worry Journal Bundle is that it can help children move from surviving to thriving when they feel worried. Growth mindset, embodiment and mindfulness are such empowering tools!

If all three journals would be helpful for you, I’ve bundled them to provide them at a discount. You can see the full bundle here. I never want funding to be a reason children don’t have tools that would be helpful for them, so please reach out to me if cost is a barrier for you.

I am also excited to announce that the full ten-month Worry Journal Bundle is up and ready to roll! Click the photo below to read more about it!

May we be gentle and kind both with ourselves and with the children in our lives as we pursue growth, presence and mindfulness. These skills take time, patience and persistence. I hope these journals can be one small tool in your toolkit as you help the children in your life to thrive.
